Zip Zone
October 2, 2010 (Note date change) A group of elite fund raisers will step out of their comfort zone to participate in the Easter Seals Nova Scotia’s Zip Zone.

Easter Seals Nova Scotia’s Zip Zone is an extreme outdoor adventure where participants climb the Macdonald bridge’s Dartmouth tower (337.69 feet above the water) then rappel, zipping down to the pedestrian sidewalk on the bridge deck. Besides being a fun outdoor adventure it offers the added benefits of experiential learning for groups and makes participating in the Zip Zone a great activity for team building.
Each rappeller must raise a minimum of $3000 in pledges that funds Easter Seals Nova Scotia programs for Nova Scotian children and adults with physical disabilities – that include camp experiences, job skills training, and providing mobility equipment. All proceeds go directly to these programs.
Registration
• Open to Participants above the age of the majority.
• Participants need to be in reasonably good condition to climb to the top of the tower and rappel. You will be able to rappel as long as you weigh under 300 pounds (including personal equipment – leg brace, clothing, etc.)
• Each team member must sign the EASTER SEALS NOVA SCOTIA Zip Zone waiver and abide by the rules set out in the Zip Zone handbook.
• Each participant must raise a minimum of $3000 to rappel.
• Manditory training dates must be completed by all participants. Training will include a rappel from the tower at the RAT (Remote Access Technology) complex and climbing to the first deck on the Macdonald bridge’s Dartmouth tower to acclimatize to the bridge.
• To make fund-raising easy a custom ‘Zip Zone web page’ will be made each participant to assist in meeting fund-raising goals. Fund-raising assistance will also be available from the Easter Seals Nova Scotia Staff.
• At least half of the required fund-raising must be complete by the first training date.
The Day of the Event
• Participants will park their cars on the Dartmouth side of the bridge. They will register at the ESNS booth at the Bridge Commission building and then be escorted onto the bridge’s pedestrian sidewalk to the base of the Dartmouth Tower.
• Participants will climb 16 stories to the top of the tower, then rappel safely back down to the deck under strict guidance and supervision from the RAT experts.
• When participants safely land on the bridge deck they will be derigged and escorted out of the exclusion zone.
How safe is this?
Easter Seals Nova Scotia and RAT have gone to great efforts to ensure participant safety throughout the training and rappel experience. You are required to take the proper training we provide, listen to your rappelling instructors and follow their directions. Everyone involved with your rappel has professional training and accreditation and every effort has been made to ensure you have a safe rappel.
