Weekly Recreation Sessions
Weekly recreation sessions expose the participants to a variety of recreational, sport, and leisure activities. The sessions are an opportunity for youth to learn about and engage in different physical activities in a non-competitive atmosphere. Each 9 week session gives the youth a taste of a number of different sports and games, many of which the participants can choose to pursue through the sport’s provincial organization.
Weekly sessions are available at the following times and locations:
- Sundays 12:30-2:00pm at St. Andrew’s Recreation Centre in Halifax
- Wednesdays 6 – 7:30pm at Forest Heights Community School in Chester
Sports Camps
Over the summer months the Take PART program hosts a number of sports camps designed for youth who are interested in learning more advanced skills in parasports. Sometimes the participants have been exposed to sports through Take PART weekly sessions, while other times they are participating in inclusive programs in their community but want to experience sports designed just for them. The camps run in similar fashion to other community day camps, with sessions on skills, scrimmages, and other fun activities that allow the youth to develop their interests and independence.

Kids Quest
Kid’s Quest is an exciting recreational program that focuses on physical activities that most children, regardless of ability, don’t experience everyday. Activities such as whitewater rafting and rock climbing, as well as non-typical sports such as waterskiing and horseback riding are organized approximately 4 to 6 times a year as half or full day adventures. At Easter Seals we strive to find ways for participants with all physical disabilities to participate, and we modify and adapt all activities as required

School Programs
This program is being designed to increase awareness throughout schools about physical activities and sports available to people with physical disabilities. While the program exposes students to challenges faced by people with physical disabilities, the program has an ability-focused approach, emphasizing what people with physical disabilities can do.
