Easter Seals Nova Scotia is a not-for-profit charity based in Dartmouth. We advocate for a barrier-free Nova Scotia and deliver top quality programs that promote mobility, inclusion and independence for Nova Scotians with disabilities. We are governed by a Board of Directors.

We are seeking a Treasurer to oversee, support, and review our organization’s finances. The Treasurer, an Executive position, serves as a volunteer Director of the Board, and performs a lead role in financial reporting and budgeting processes.

Our organization delivers 4 high quality programs throughout Nova Scotia including Camp Tidnish, New Leaf Enterprise, Take Part and the Wheelchair Recycling and Assistive Devices Program.

We rely on a variety of income streams to support our operation and programs, including government funding, social enterprise revenue, and a spectrum of fundraising programs such as direct mail campaigns, online donations, major gift acquisitions, and special events.

The Treasurer Role and Responsibilities

The Treasurer works closely with Easter Seals Nova Scotia’s President and CEO and Manager of Finance and Administration to ensure sound fiscal management and financial reporting. Duties include, but may not be limited to:

  • Serve as an active volunteer member of the Board of Directors and member of the Board Executive.
  • Review financial statements monthly, and investigate any significant variances from budget.
  • Prepare monthly Treasurer’s Report for the Board /Executive Committee. Discuss financial results at Board/Executive Committee meetings and make recommendations as required.
  • Be an authorized signing officer.
  • Review accounts receivable and accounts payable monthly and discuss any delinquent accounts with the Manager of Finance.
  • Review cash flow projections for accuracy and adequacy.
  • Review annual budget to ensure it is reasonable and achievable.
  • Help shape, prepare, and present budget plans.
  • Review periodic updated financial forecasts.
  • Serve as Chair of the Audit Committee (meets April/May).
  • Present year-end audited financial statements at the Annual General Meeting.
  • Work as a team member and participate in board meetings.
  • Work closely with Manager of Finance and President & CEO.

The Treasurer typically contributes about 3 to 5 hours per month of their time to the organization. This time can include the afore-mentioned responsibilities, attending board meetings, serving on the Board Executive and/or committee meetings, preparing for these meetings, and consulting with Easter Seals Nova Scotia staff via email, phone, or in person.
