Kim Wry Bursary for Camp Tidnish

The Zonta Club of Amherst Area is part of Zonta International. Founded in 1919 in the USA, Zonta is a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy.

The Zonta Club of Amherst Area supports important service projects on international and local levels. Since its first meeting in 1984, our Amherst members have supported many local programs, including Autumn House, Maggie’s Place, the Food Bank, International Women’s Day, Girls World, Camp Pagweak, Easter Seal Campaign, Cumberland County Museum, and the Kim Wry Bursary.

Kim Wry was instrumental in forming The Zonta Club of the Amherst Area, was a charter member and was the club’s first President. Sadly, Kim passed away at a young age. The Kim Wry Bursary was organized to honour Kim’s contribution to the Zonta Club and women in Cumberland County. Initially created for women returning to school and/or post high school studies, many women in this area have benefitted from this Bursary. During the Covid-19 Pandemic, our members discussed how the Bursary might be redirected and a decision was made to use the Kim Wry Bursary funds to sponsor a woman from Cumberland County to attend Camp Tidnish, which has operated for over 80 years and is very familiar to the residents of this area. It is our intent to continue this Bursary each year going forward.

Members of the Zonta Club of Amherst Area look forward to joining Easter Seals Nova Scotia and the Rotary Club of Amherst in supporting a woman (19 years +) from Cumberland County to attend Camp Tidnish with its wonderful programs for individuals with physical and/or intellectual disabilities.

The deadline to apply for the Kim Wry Bursary is April 15th, 2023.
