Assistive Devices

Easter Seals Nova Scotia’s Assistive Devices program helps Nova Scotians with physical disabilities in financial need to acquire medical devices based on an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist’s mobility assessment.

The Assistive Devices program enables clients to borrow a wide variety of refurbished health equipment which has been generously donated to us by our supporters. Items available may include mobility aids, as well as bathroom and bedroom safety equipment. A limited supply of donated equipment is available for short and long term loan to the public. Check our equipment inventory here.

We accept donations of medical equipment for recycling. Learn more about Equipment Donations here.

Submitting a Request

In order to submit a request for this program, you must have an application form filled out by a Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist.  They will evaluate your needs, and will then submit a request to us.

  • For ongoing maintenance of equipment which has been provided by Easter Seals Nova Scotia (certain exceptions do apply), there is a $500 per year, per item, limit.
  • Items such as stair lifts and fixed porch lifts that require installation, fees are to be covered by the client. Any fees will be discussed in advance of instillation.
  • Certain assistive devices items provided by Easter Seals NS become the responsibility of the client for any ongoing maintenance. You will be notified at the time of borrowing if this is applicable to you.
  • Items may not be available right away, if this is the case, you will be placed on a waiting list until a suitable item becomes available.
